knstrand :

Hello, I'm a small animal veterinarian and would love to help answer your questions about Sooty.

knstrand :

Sorry to hear he keeps getting hurt when he goes out. It may not be all his fault. Sometimes other cats in the neighborhood are instigators.

knstrand :

I would suggest keeping him confined if possible

knstrand :

This will ensure he doesn't get injured.

knstrand :

Some people create cat runs in their yard ( caged, safe areas with shelves etc)

Customer:

thanks he wanders a lot when he is out and then comes back injured, if he is used to going outside can i keep him in

knstrand :

If it's in his best interest…. I would imagine it would be hard, but keeping him inside would prevent the fights and injuries long term

Customer:

i tried putting a collar with a bell on him, but that has gone i live near a quarry i am assuming it is a cat as he has bite wounds could it be something else, they have just started building in the quarry

knstrand :

It's most likely to be another cat. Anything else would probably injury him more severely.

knstrand :

The most surefire way of keeping him safe would be to keep him indoors or in a safe outdoor area.
