I am having difficulty in being able to indicate which

Resolved Question:

Hi
I am having difficulty in being able to indicate which SIM I wish to use when making a call. Sometimes I get asked, particularly when sending an SMS, but when calling it often goes to the SIM that I would rather not use.
I have also had some difficulty answering the phone when locked - there was not the normal locked sign or the ability to 'swipe to the right' - is this a common problem?
Thanks in anticipation

Thank you
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Hi "Richard,

I bought the phone in Holland in case that makes a difference - it is a Archos Model Number AC45BHE Android version 4.4.4 Hardware version TBW5725_P2_001.

If required I also have 'Kernel version' and 'Build number.'

Thanks

David

Thanks David
This is a pretty rare phone, so hard to get information on it.
I am originally Dutch and it seems this phone is only in the Dutch Market.
But the model you gave is not coming up.
Is this the phone you have?

ok, we need to see if there is an option to set a default SIM and there is no manual for this phone online so we do this together
On the phone, go to Settings.
Tell me whats listed there please

I am actually close by there. Speak Dutch too.
But you should be able to go to Settings and see Call Settings, ect.
Its usually a Cog wheel, if you slide from the top down on the screen you should see it
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Hi Richard,

There are a number of options within settings under the headings :

Wireless and network

Device

Personal

Accounts

System

If you want I can call and talk through further details or Skype?

Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
We can do it via Skype David, but it is an additional service.
I made the offer, and if you accept we can do this.
Else we can continue here.
Let me know please.

Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
ok, chooser default SIM settings
Can you set the default sim?
As this is then the one it always uses
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

No that option does not come up it merely states that Mobile Data will come from SIM 1

Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
ok, then there is no way David to set a default SIM for calling, it is going to always ask sorry, else it would have the option here to do it.
It will only set the default SIM for internet over the mobile network.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Richard,

The point I am trying to make is that it does not always ask - as I stated initially it occaisionally does but not always and i have not worked out what determines whether it asks or not.

There is also a periodic time when 4g seems to work and then it no longer works at all? Not sure if this is also connected?

Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
I saw, but we can only check to see if there is a way to make a default to stop it asking, which there is not David.
Anything from Archos is pretty poor which is why they are so rare, and there are a lot of bugs in their firmware. Also the reason for how you unlock it
Without the option to set a default SIM the only other solution will be to perform a factory reset of the phone, which will wipe all data and return the phone to new, but then it will either ask everytime, and then start to slowly get back to doing this due to the numerous bugs in the firmware.
But we have checked and there is no way to tell it which SIM to use as default.
4G not working is going to be done to this problem as well as it "forgets" the default.
But if you are ok with losing the data on the phone we can do a reset, just let me know
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Richard,

I need to think about this as there is a lot of time I have put into modifying the phone with various bits of data and software. Can I come back to you tomorrow?

Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
I wont be on tomorrow David, but on Monday.
But you wont need me, to do the reset, you go to Settings, Storage and choose Factory Reset there.
Let this complete and then set up the phone again.
Then use it and it should ask you every time which SIM to use.
If it does not, and does what its now doing (which I suspect) it will be bugs within the firmware, and unless they release an update (which gets delivered to your phone automatically) you wont be able to do anything about it.
As I mentioned, Archos are pretty poorly developed phones, so I really believe this is a bug within the firmware.
I will be here though Monday if you have any issues or further questions, but after checking the settings, the only option you have is to do the reset or use it as it is.

Hi Richard,

I have spoken this morning with some technicians from ARCHOS and apparently there has been a problem that has been fixed with an update. I have tried my phone and all appears to be functioning well at the moment with all issues resolved.

Thanks for your time and advice and if I have any problems on any of my other devices in the future I will contact you.

David
