HP Photosmart 6510 Windows XP prints fine, scans to printer

HP Photosmart 6510 Windows XP prints fine, scans to printer fine, will not scan to computer. Printer screen says No computer found, computer screen says The HP Photosmart series cannot be found. I've reinstalled using the disc supplied and software I downloaded from the HP website. Have tried using wireless and USB. Have used the HP Doctor.

  1. Click Start , point to All Programs , point to Accessories , and then click Paint .
  2. Click File , and then click From Scanner or Camera .
  3. Make any desired setting changes.
  4. Click Scan .

Open windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools and open Services. Check that the following services ( check them in th order shown below ) are all showing as Status= Started and Start-up Type= Automatic

Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

Shell Hardware Detection

Windows Image Acquisition

If you need to make a change to any of the above, just right click the service and select Properties, then in the dropdown box next to 'Start-up type', select Automatic and click Apply to save the change. Then click the Start button.

Device manager asked me to reinstall the drivers which I did having downloaded from HP but no difference.

USB at the moment although we have had it connected wirelessly and the problem is the same with both
