I have an HP laserjet 5100 printer that connects to my laptop

Customer Question

I have an HP laserjet 5100 printer that connects to my laptop using a 36pin to USB cable (no usb on back of printer)

Printing up until yesterday has been fine. Problem that I now have is that I get a message saying 'USB has malfunctioned' and print jobs sent to printer show as 'error - sending print' in the print dialogue box.

The USB port itself I beleive is OK as currently my mouse is plugged in and it works

I have unistalled USB ports and restarted laptop and they have re-installed, but problem still persists.

I haven't re-installed printer drivers as didn't think this was the problem

I have tried using an old cable I had which is a bit worn (not sure if it any good anyway), but this did not work

I have tried using a different laptop, but get the same USB malfunction message

I have today ordererd a new cable

What else could cause this?
