I have an ASUS N55U hub - works great until just changed to

I have an ASUS N55U hub - works great until just changed to BT broadband!
Now I cant see how to configure - can you help?

No at the moment, becausse I was desperate after trying for a couple of days, I have plugged the old BT home hub 2 into the computer just to

So were you connecting the Asus directly on the wire coming out of the dsl filter ?

Customer:

originally the AsUS was working wirelessly through the dsl filter and all the PC's Mac etc worked wirelessly from that.

KamilAnwar1 :

And after you changed to BT broadband it stopped working, correct?

Customer:

Correct.

KamilAnwar1 :

So basically the issue is that it needs to be reconfigured. Can you first call BT and ask them for your username and password XXXXX the DSL and tell them that you wish to configure a third party router so you need all the details.

Customer:

I know my user name and password XXXXX not how to configure

KamilAnwar1 :

Next to the 4 yellow ports, there is a small black button inside.

Customer:

yes

KamilAnwar1 :

Power on the router and hold this button for 5 seconds then release.

KamilAnwar1 :

Then connect the DSL line to the blue port (RJ11) on the back of the router. You will be temporarily disconnected while you configure it.

KamilAnwar1 :

Then, on one of the yellow ports, connect a ethernet cable with the other end going into this computer.

Customer:

this will cut me off from you!

KamilAnwar1 :

Then open your web-browser and wait for the ASUS page to appear automatically.

KamilAnwar1 :

Keep my window open, if something goes wrong, you can connect back to BT and get in touch with me.

KamilAnwar1 :

After it opens up QIS it will ask you to provide username and password XXXXX one stage which is your DSL username and password.

KamilAnwar1 :

Provide that and check.

Customer:

OK will do

KamilAnwar1 :

I'll be here, please do let me know the results.

Customer:

No that didn't work.

Customer:

all the lights went blue except the internet connection

Did it ask for username/password?

Customer:

no - no asus page came up at all

Connect to it again, and open 192.168.1.1

KamilAnwar1 :

username is XXXXX XXXXX password XXXXX XXXXX

Do you have the Asus Utilitity Installed on your computer?

KamilAnwar1 :

Go to Start -> All Programs -> Asus Utility -> DSL - N55U ADSL Router -> ADSL Setting Wizard

Customer:

Back, the asus gave this message: Settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh.
Changes have been made to the IP address or port number. You will now be disconnected from DSL-N55U.
To access the settings of DSL-N55U, reconnect to the wireless network and use the updated IP address and port number.

When I went into the wireless network I was asked to put in the password XXXXX the hub which I did. but no user name and password XXXXX no was to do this...what next?

Customer:

no way to do this!

I mean if you connect the dsl line back, was it solid, off or blinked?

now obviously I am back to old hub _ they sent us a new one which was a dud!

Can you just connect the dsl line back and wait 2 - 3 minutes, to note down the status of the adsl light.

KamilAnwar1 :

We'll move the next step after we ensure that it has the DSL settings.

KamilAnwar1 :

If the ADSL light becomes stable, then connect your computer to one of the yellow ports on the back using ethernet wire.

KamilAnwar1 :

Do not connect to it wirelessly now, and if it works on the ethernet wire then come online from it.

KamilAnwar1 :

What is the status?

this is going nowhere at the moment. I have done all you ask and there is no change. I can't continue just now as my husband need his supper

I am telling you the steps (step by step). If i tell you all at once, it will become a mess.

After each step, i need to know what the results is so we can continue in order.

The first step is to get ADSL to work.

Yes but I have done all the steps you suggest and nothing has changed.

I am running backwards and forwards changing the routers and then losing connection and having to start all over again. Can I try with you tomorrow morning, please?

OK in the last hour, I have managed to get the ASUS router set up ...admin/admin then manually selected UK & BT broadband, put in user name and password XXXXX all details - can send you picture of page BUT still 'limited' internet access. I am back to BT home hub!

How did you connect to the router (wire or wireless)?

i thried both sequentially but the ASUS favours wireless and doesnt seem to recognise the ethernet (just for safety I tried 2 different cables

Can you disable wireless and then connect to the router on ethernet?

KamilAnwar1 :

Then login to 192.168.1.1 and see if you can find logs

how should I disable wireless. what steps, please?

Click Start -> type ncpa.cpl and Hit Enter

KamilAnwar1 :

Locate your wireless network connection, right click on it and select disable

KamilAnwar1 :

To enable it, right click again and select enable

OK in order to do this and reconnect to ASUS, I will need to disconnect from you. probably at least 5-10 mins is this OK?

I am back but no further forward. I get error 651 There seems to be a problem with the LAN settings. I am now plugged into the BT hub again but it only seems to recognise the wireless as well

Now it seems to be a PC issue

but there has been no problem with wireless until now. should I see if there are updates to the LAN drivers?

Then click the wireless icon on the system tray

KamilAnwar1 :

Select the Asus Network

KamilAnwar1 :

Right click on it and select Status

KamilAnwar1 :

Then select Diagnose

OK, I have already done this a few times but obviously will have to disconnect to do it again - OK

Okay. Take your time.

OK I h ave done that and the result is that the problem seems to be with authenticating the router

i also disabled virus software to see if this was a problem

It said authenticating with the PC or the router?

Seems like router is unable to authenticate with BT

Are you sure entered the correct username/password?

absolutely. unless BT did not give me the correct name

You were able to connect to Asus's Wifi right?

Then the problem is with BT and the Router. Can you call them to check the DSL username and Password and confirm if this router is supported?

sorry BT phones !! - am still trying to get the technicials to give me an answer - on hold...and again!

Try this:

Go to Start -> All Programs -> Asus Utility -> DSL - N55U ADSL Router -> ADSL Setting Wizard

If this doesn't work, then yes reset.

OK - now you are offline! I have done this and the reset has worked ... but cant connect other devices

So is the internet now working?

To connect other devices, you will need to reconnect them to the asus wifi using the password XXXXX setup / have.
