Resolved Question:

Hi
I bought an Asus tablet last week (and assumed that there would be some instruction on how to use it- I am wrinkly!!) Somehow I managed to get a display, put the clock and date right, typed in a password ***** tried to connect it to my server. Nothing happened.
Thought I'd try again this morning so switched it on and it is coming up with a padlock symbol and No connection display.
Any thoughts on what I should do or might be doing wrong please?

Waitongu2 :

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/ME173X/e8255_k00B_me173X_em.pdf

Waitongu2 :

this is the manual and users guide to your tablet.

Customer:

It comes up with the date, day and time display No Connection and two padlocks, 1 inside and one outside a flashing circle.

Waitongu2 :

ok. do you see one of the pad locks is unlocked

Customer:

I have tried tapping both of the padlock sysmbols in the hope that something will ask me for the password- nothing..

Waitongu2 :

ok slide the inner circle to the unlocked pardlock

Waitongu2 :

it should unlock the screen

Customer:

Yes I can see that the lower padlock is unlocked

Customer:

Ok brilliant it has now given me a choice of possibilities i.e calendar, email etc. unfortunately the no connection sign is still being displayed.

Waitongu2 :

good

Waitongu2 :

we are making progress

Waitongu2 :

now on the screen it should have the time and then some icons at the bottom

Waitongu2 :

can you see these?

Waitongu2 :

at the top of the screen there is a place with Time and where it shows no network

Waitongu2 :

Lets go here, hold and pull it down.

Waitongu2 :

It should open settings where you will see things like settings, wireless networks etc

Waitongu2 :

This is a brilliant user maual for the MeMO 10

Waitongu2 :

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/ME173X/e8255_k00B_me173X_em.pdf

Customer:

I've tried holding the time/no network and dragging out down but it just goes back up again.

Waitongu2 :

ok

Waitongu2 :

at the center of the icons at the bottom there is a circle with some boxes inside.

Waitongu2 :

can you see this?

Customer:

Yes

Waitongu2 :

tap on it. It will open all apps

Waitongu2 :

once done look for one called Settings

Customer:

O.K done that

Waitongu2 :

now what do you see under settings?

Customer:

Settings is on second screen- It says BTHub3-FCRT authentification problem.

Waitongu2 :

Ok

Waitongu2 :

Is the BTHub3 your WiFi network?

Customer:

Yes- it's the one I'm using to talk to you

Waitongu2 :

ok

Waitongu2 :

biw do you know the WiFi password?

Waitongu2 :

* do you know the password ***** the WiFi?

Customer:

No- where would I find that? By the way I clicked on the BTHub display and it gave me some choices so I clicked on Connect and it now says Authenticating- hope that is OK?

Waitongu2 :

Thats ok

Waitongu2 :

if it fails we will click on it again and select Forget network then start over

Waitongu2 :

on the WiFi router at the back there is usually the network name and Authentication key

Waitongu2 :

we need this key

Waitongu2 :

are you able yo look at the router?

Customer:

O.K thank you-I will go down stairs and make a note of the key while we are waiting for the Hub thing to be authenticated.

Waitongu2 :

Waitongu2 :

I will be here

Customer:

There are two numbers on the back of the router the WPS Pin and the Admin Password- which one do we need?

Waitongu2 :

the Pin will do

Waitongu2 :

now on the tablet, lets click on the wifi again and select forget

Customer:

OK display now says authentification abandoned so I have typed in the pin and we are back to authenticating again

Waitongu2 :

ok do you have a button saying WPS PIN?

Customer:

Where would that be?

Waitongu2 :

when you tap on the BTHub3-FCRT

Customer:

Nothing saying WPS pin but have just got a message stating Authentification problem again,. Should I press forget and start again?

Waitongu2 :

yes

Customer:

OK it has now come up asking for the password so I have typed it in and we are back to Authenticating...

Waitongu2 :

ok

Customer:

Again Authentification problem Is it time to throw the memo pad into the river do you think?

Waitongu2 :

Waitongu2 :

it is a minor issue.

Waitongu2 :

Waitongu2 :

ok

Waitongu2 :

is the computer windows 7?

Customer:

yes

Waitongu2 :

ok

Waitongu2 :

is this computer on the same WiFi?

Customer:

I have assumed that somehow it will pick up the same system- I have only one computer and my telephone and skye TV system are all linked through this one line. I haven't typed anything into the pad because I had no instructions telling me to do so.

Waitongu2 :

ok

Waitongu2 :

lets us go to the bottom of the computer screen

Waitongu2 :

you will see there are a set of bars like network bars

Waitongu2 :

can you see those?

Customer:

Are you taling about my lap top? The only thing at the bottom of this screen are the smiley faces atings.

Waitongu2 :

yes the laptop. at the very bottom next to the clock

Customer:

Sorry- as I said I am a wrinkly and am still in the days of paper instructions! The Network bars show that the BT hub is connected with a good signal

Waitongu2 :

Customer:

I fear that my end is closer than yours.... in life terms that is!

Waitongu2 :

now let us click on the bars once. then it will open a small window. go to where it says BT and right click then select properties. We are doing this to get the password ***** is using

Waitongu2 :

That fear is in us all im afraid. It comes like a thief...unannounced

Waitongu2 :

Waitongu2 :

It will be quck

Customer:

It just says connected--- should I click on the Open Network and Sharing Centre line at the bottom of this display?
