We have a Cannon MP499 printer that my partner uses wirelessly

We have a Cannon MP499 printer that my partner uses wirelessly and has had no problems for years. It suddenly didn't recognise his laptop so he tried downloading the drivers again fro the Cannon site, plugged in the lead directly from the printer to his laptop and got the following error C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\W32X86\3\CNMVSa9.dll
I phoned Cannon and they said it was a microsoft spool error and not something they could help with, so I phoned microsoft to be told they would have a look by taking remote control of the laptop but there would be a cost involved so we didn't proceed. Can you help?

Please try clearing the printer spool by following this instruction from eHOW & Microsoft

If this still doesn't work, please try removing the printer totally from the computer and then reinstalling the drivers.
