ok, what you do is turn it on Terry and it will take you the setup process.
One of the steps is connecting to your wireless network which gets you connected to the Kindle environment.

The instructions from amazon state that I should nor connect the USB but eject the cable from the computer.

yes, during setup you do not have the Kindle connected to your computer.
You can just unplug the cable if you did

OK the cable is taken off but the Kindle needs to be set up for matters such as Wi Fi BTwiFi-x my user name (*****@******.***), password ***** what else?
