Am traveling with a canon s120 and had no problem connecting the camera to wifi in the first place I stayed but in the second place, I am having a problem. The camera does detect the wifi network I am using for my phone and iPad. But I do not get a prompt to enter a password. When it tries to connect it is not successful and after much time sends the message to check network settings. I don't see how to do that. I read the manual about connecting via the access point but I cannot fin the router in the apartment where I am staying. And anyway, it seems I should be able to connect via password ***** I did with my phone and iPad.

The fact that it worked well in the first place you stayed - especially if you have not let it get heated up, have cushioned it against any shocks or not subjected it to any shocks, etc. - is a very good indication, that your camera is not 'broken' at all.

I rather suspect, that it has no Wireless-N capability. The last place you stayed was probably Wireless-G-compatible.

(To explain: antique wireless used a slower system called Wireless-B. Relatively modern wireless started using a faster system called Wireless-G. And the most modern uses Wireless-N, which is even faster.)

Check with the hotel, or support staff, and see whether your local wireless access is Wireless-N (and not Wireless-G.)

This place was built in 2013. Everything is brand new. the problem is not the Wi-Fi as I am able to connect in both my phone and my iPad to it. The problem is I cannot access the password ***** on my Canon S 120. Please tell me how I can access that screen so that I can connect the camera into the Wi-Fi network that it is detecting.

Do you mean that you have to set the wireless passphrase on your Canon S120?

Would you be willing to consider a factory reset of its settings? that might be necessary if the wireless passphrase has been locked off somehow.

MENU

right-arrow to Tools tab

scroll down to Reset All

Press FUNC SET.

Note: this will erase all settings / configurations individual to you that have been put onto the camera.

I am sorry but this is not the right way to go at all. the last thing I want to do is erase everything on my camera. it turns out I called Canon USA. They advised me to use the camera has its own access point. They help me to connect my camera to my smartphone that way. It is all set.
