Ryan Ford :

Hi, I am Ryan and I can help you with this.

Ryan Ford :

So he locked the main user account?

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : I'd be grateful if you could
JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : Yes
Ryan Ford :

The account is password protected?

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : Yes.
Ryan Ford :

so what happens when you try to login to the locked account?

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : It lets me login. But when I try and click on any icons on the screen they don't work. I noticed that when I go to shut down my computer that's where the option to lock the computer is and that's what he has pressed
Ryan Ford :

ahh ok, well then this is a different issue. Locking the computer leaves you logged in but just goes out to the login screen and won't let you access the computer again until you login again. So if its reaching the desktop but not doing anything, this is a different issue.

Ryan Ford :

So, it sounds like you can get into the start menu?

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : Yes
Ryan Ford :

ok, is everything in the start menu working?

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : Yes
Ryan Ford :

ok, so the issue is solely with the icons on the desktop?

Ryan Ford :

everything else is working properly?

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : Yeah
Ryan Ford :

ok, so when you try to open something from the desktop, what exactly happens? nothing at all?

Ryan Ford :

does the icon get highlighted?

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : The icon highlights and I get the wee circle going round but that's it
Ryan Ford :

i see, and what is it that you are trying to open? is it a shortcut for a program? or is it a file of some sort?

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : It's to get on Internet, just tried to access it from start menu but that's not working either
Ryan Ford :

ok, do other icons on the desktop work?

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : No
Ryan Ford :

what is another one that doesn't work?

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : iTunes, messenger,skype
Ryan Ford :

and they all behave the same way? you click them, the circle goes, but nothing happens?

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : Yes
Ryan Ford :

ok, what happens when you try to open skype from the start menu?

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : ok for some reason things are starting to work but still can't access my internet
Ryan Ford :

ok, what web browser do you use? Internet Explorer?

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : Mozilla Firefox
Ryan Ford :

ok

Ryan Ford :

so click on Start, type: taskmgr and hit enter

Ryan Ford :

on the processes tab, look through the list for firefox.exe

JACUSTOMER-s2lm0s7p- : ok there is 2 with that name
Ryan Ford :

ok, right click on each and select end task

Ryan Ford :

or end process actually

Ryan Ford :

once you have done that, try opening firefox again. Just once, don't keep trying to open it.
