I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO USE MY PRINTER FOR A WHILE, THINKING IT WAS THE PRINTER THAT WAS AT FAULT. A MESSAGE ON MY SCREEN USB PORT MALFUNCTIONAL.

Hi Sue, my name is James and I would be happy to assist you today.

I assume that you are using a computer rather than a laptop, so lets try this:

First remove anything attached to the USB you are using for your printer.

1. Click "Start" to bring up your start menu.
2. Click "Control Panel".
3. Click "System and Maintainence"
4. Click "Device Manager"
5. Device Manager window will open with a list of all hardware and external devices currently installed to your computer, scroll down the list until you notice the heading "USB Root Hub" - click this option.
6. Select any USB port that reads "Unknown Device" (this should be the port that is giving you the Malfunctional error).
7. Right click on this selection and select "Update Driver", this should trigger an automatic update of the drivers for the USB. If no new drivers are found the old driver should refresh and repair.

Once you have tried the above steps, try connecting your printer to this port.

If this still fails, have you tried other USB ports on your computer? - Do you get the same error in these other ports?
