I have an Iomega external hard drive that I am getting the following error

Data error cycle redundancy check

I have tried to run checkdisc but cannot get the programme to read the drive

Can you help correct the error?

(start button > right click on COMPUTER and select MANAGE)
when you are there, please let me know

let's see if your computer is able to read your harddisk first.
now in computer management, can you go to disk management (STORAGE)
do you see the icon of your harddisk there? (in the right pane you will see your drives, do you see your iomega disk there listed? )

by the way, do you have important data in your iomega? (we can format the harddisk if you don't have any important data)

I have photos that I had down loaded from cameras and this was the only location where it is stored so if possible I would like to recover as much as possible without formatting.


 


When I look in the disc management it shows that the hard drive is empty

can you click your start button.
go to ALL PROGRAMS, and then select ACCESSORIES
please RIGHT CLICK "command prompt" and select "run as administrator"
it will open the black (Dos) box, when you are there, please let me know, we will enter a command

can you type this carefully:
chkdsk G: /f /r

and press enter.
by the way, G part should be your iomega drive. do you know the letter of your iomega drive? it should be F or G . can you check your iomega's drive letter and replace the G letter with your own drive letter. for example if your iomega's drive letter is F, type chkdsk F: /f /r

got the response that the type of the file system is RAW CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives

do you have another computer? or laptop?
can you try to connect your iomega to another computer?
(so this way we can understand if there is a problem with your iomega, or, your computer)

Does not work on alternative computer, so if I have a problem with the iomega is there a fix?

how do you connect your iomega to the computer?
are you using an external enclosure, or are you connecting through the usb port?

connection is through a usb port, I have tried changing the usb lead before but this does not seem to be the problem

can you download this program and check if the program is able to see the files in your iomaga. if yes, we can recover the files in the iomega.

yes widows can't access the disc

your iomega is being seen as RAW (raw format as checkdisk says)
can you go to
http://www.easeus.com/resource/convert-raw-ntfs.htm
download it, install, scan your iomega
