Hello! Thank you for your question. I am a licensed printer and computer professional with over ten years of experience, and I will be assisting you today.I'm sorry about the issue; I've been doing some research on your printer. The reason 2-side printing (also called duplex printing) is greyed is that because the model HL-4140CN does not have duplex capability; I have checked your printer's specifications; it does not have duplex hardware feature:http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/printers/1282150/brother-hl-4140cn
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/eu/eu_ot/en/colorlaserpri/hl4140cn_eu/spec/index.htmlAlso, please note that for Brother printer, HL-4140CN, the letter C stands for Color, and the letter N stands for Network. If Brother printer that has duplex, it would have the letter D in it, such as HL-4140CDN.However, there is a workaround: you can do 2-sided printing manually; you would select the option to print even pages only first, then after those even pages have been printed, take the printed pages from the output tray. Then turn them over, and reload them in the paper tray with the blank side facing down and top of the sheet facing you. Then select the option to print odd pages only.
Please see the full instructions/illustrations for how to print 2-sided at the website below:
