Satchi :

Hi , Welcome to JustAnswer Thanks & Regards Satchi

Satchi :

Are you able to start computer in SAFE mode ?

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

No it will not start in safe mode because I am unable to proress that far

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

Hi Satchi

Satchi :

Hi

Satchi :

Just after power ON

Satchi :

press F8 multiple times

Satchi :

till advanced boot menu come

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

I have no F8 on my Bootup - it only responds to F2...I have tried using F8 but there is no response

Satchi :

okay

Satchi :

is it coming in black screen ?

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

Yes

Satchi :

ok I see

Satchi :

Have you installed any new application .after which this problem is coming

Satchi :

?

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

None at all

Satchi :

ok

Satchi :

Press F2 or F1 to ENTER BIOS setup screen

Satchi :

just after power ON

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

yes that is correct

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

yes

Satchi :

ok let me know when you are on BIOS setup

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

I cannot do that because I am using my spare computer

Satchi :

do on that computer

Satchi :

which is having problem

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

this means that I will break this link????

Satchi :

Why?

Satchi :

Please bring up the BIOS setup on problematic computer not on this computer from which you are chatting

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

As the computer with the problem will not startup this is the reason I choose the system what you're on as a means of getting it started

Satchi :

Please bring up BIOS setup on Windows XP computer

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

AS I HAVE JUST SAID I CANNOT DO THAT BECAUSE TO DO SO WOULD BREAK THIS LINK THAT I AM USING

Satchi :

which link you are talking about ?

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

The computer with the problem is unconnected and the only mean of connecting is to disconnect the computer I am using

Satchi :

You need to connect both so that we can troubleshoot

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

I do not have the facilities to connect both, could you possibly give me a list of instruction that I can try?

Satchi :

Okay.

Satchi :

After power on Press F1/F2 or Delete to enter BIOS setup screen

Satchi :

there look for Advanced Boot Menu / Advanced Chipset features

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

ok

Satchi :

there look for boot device priority

Satchi :

and select CD?DVD drive as 1st boot device

Satchi :

and Harddisk as 2nd boot device

Satchi :

after that insert windows XP CD and save and exit BIOS setup screen

Satchi :

computer will restart

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

ok

Satchi :

On screen it will come as press any key to boot from CD

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

ok

Satchi :

press enter

Satchi :

then choose recovery XP option onscreen

Satchi :

a command prompt will come there press 1

Satchi :

to select current hard disk

Satchi :

  1. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER.
    copy drive letter:\i386\autochk.exe %WINDIR%\system32

Note The drive letter placeholder represents the drive, such as "D:", that is running the Windows XP startup disk.

  2. Type Y when you receive the following message:

    Overwrite C:\WINDOWS\system32\autochk.exe? (Yes/No/All):

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

yeah I have all that

Satchi :

Yes after that remove the CD and reboot normally

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

OK Satchi I will try all that- tell me, if all of this fails what happens?

Satchi :

That depends upon the type of error message you get during the steps

Satchi :

If the windows XP CD won't be able start then the problem is either CD drive or the XP CD itself

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

So you're pretty sure that I will get something from the steps you suggest?

Satchi :

If the system successfully boot in recovery mode then I am pretty sure it will work

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

ok I will now rewrite all of your suggestions in longhand. I have other alternatives what to do if your suggested processes fail.

Satchi :

ok if above fails then you need another Windows XP full installation disk to reinstall ...

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

I have just realised that the first steps you recommend I have already done, and that Is to make the F Drive the first booting option, so having done that already then what ever you say to do after that will also not work. I HAVE MADE MY ROM DRIVE THE FIRST BOOTUP OPTION

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

And it does not accept the XP Disc

Satchi :

Then as I told you need another XP disk ..

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

i HAVE ALREADY TRIED TWO OTHER DISCS

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

I have had this problem for over two weeks now

Satchi :

Then the CD drive seems not to able reads disks

Satchi :

You can use an external USB DVD/CD drive to boot

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

I have also tries using my new exernal drive BUT still no joy

Satchi :

While using external drive you need to make that drive as first boot device in BIOS

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

Well funny you should say that because the first thing I did was to change that very setting.

Satchi :

Ok ,then you are telling even after changing boot device priority to USB external DVD drive you are not able to boot (with all three disks you have )

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

That's ecaxtly what I'm saying, as I said before I have had this problem for over two weeks

Satchi :

Ok. Then the problem seems to be with the motherboard that stops to boot from USB and CD drive

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

So I need a new Motherboard?

Satchi :

Before that you can try to reset /Load default setting in BIOS screen

Satchi :

and try again with all the disks you have

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

OK

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

What if its the same?

Satchi :

Then to load /repair windows you need to be able to boot from the CD/DVD drive

Satchi :

CD drive port can be repaired

Satchi :

on service center if faulty

Satchi :

then once CD drive is fine you can start

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

Satchi if I could do that we wouldn't be chatting on line as we are

Satchi :

Please check above I told it can be repaired in service center not by yourself

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

OK Thanks Mate...I'm really back to square one, it's not for you wanting to help and giving me very good advice all of which I've already tried.

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Satchi :

Not a problem ... I will open the question to other experts so that they might provide more information ..

Satchi :

You will get email when other expert joins you .

Satchi :

Good Luck ..

JACUSTOMER-nuqevtdx- :

Thank you Satchi

Satchi :

Welcome
