I cannot connect to my network. There is a little padlock

Customer Question

I cannot connect to my network. There is a little padlock icon in the network panel. I have tried every password XXXXX might have been used at some time but to no avail. This condition arrived quite suddenly. Ordinarily my network could be accessed without the need of a password. Raymond XXXX

Hi,

arsufi2002 :

Welcome to Just Answer.

My name isXXXXX look forward to assisting you today with your question and providing the best answer possible.

arsufi2002 :

By the way, which device are you trying to connect? (computer or other wireless device)

arsufi2002 :

Also share router model ?

arsufi2002 :

Are you there

arsufi2002 :

It seems you are offline.

arsufi2002 :

Your question clearly says that router has been hi-jacked by somebody. You know this is the reason behind setting up wireless password. If you haven't set a password, anybody who comes under wireless range can connect your router and can use your resource without your permission.

arsufi2002 :

What we can do now?
If your wireless router is not an adsl modem, then you can simply reset wireless router by pressing Reset button for 10 sec which is located on rear side. This resets wireless router to default settings and can start using it again

arsufi2002 :

Note: You should seek ISP help for configuring ADSL modem if your router is ADSL + wireless router

arsufi2002 :

I wait to hear from you.

arsufi2002 :

(I may not have answered your query, if that's the case, you may please respond here)

arsufi2002 :

Thanks

Dear Fiyaz,

arsufi2002 :

hi

arsufi2002 :

what's the status

JACUSTOMER-v6bwp5d0- :

Thank you for trying to help me, but the attempt was unsuccessful. I pressed the reset button for 10 seconds, but now I find I cannot even recall my network, which always appeared before with the little padlock beside it. I have no idea how to proceed from now on. I have tried about everything and so far, no solution.

JACUSTOMER-v6bwp5d0- :

Raymond

arsufi2002 :

ok

arsufi2002 :

Router will works in its default settings once it gets reset

arsufi2002 :

What all wireless networks do you see now?

arsufi2002 :

Among them, do you see a network without padlock

arsufi2002 :

If you see, then that would be yours

arsufi2002 :

connect to it

JACUSTOMER-v6bwp5d0- :

I cannot see any networks at all, with or without padlocks.

arsufi2002 :

ok

arsufi2002 :

Are you using computer to scan wireless network?

arsufi2002 :

Sir, if you have reset router, you would atleast see a wireless network

arsufi2002 :

Please turn off wireless router and turn on after 1 min

JACUSTOMER-v6bwp5d0- :

I turned router off for 1 min. If I press "choose a network" I now get SKY4C7AF with a padlock symbol. Things are getting worse.

JACUSTOMER-v6bwp5d0- :

Raymond

arsufi2002 :

ok

arsufi2002 :

what's your router model?

arsufi2002 :

i mean wireless router

JACUSTOMER-v6bwp5d0- :

TP-LINK

JACUSTOMER-v6bwp5d0- :

JACUSTOMER-v6bwp5d0- :

Ver 4.0

arsufi2002 :

arsufi2002 :

Now turn off router and check if it shows this network

arsufi2002 :

SKY4C7AF

arsufi2002 :

because we need to confirm whether this is your wireless network

arsufi2002 :

status please

arsufi2002 :

hello

arsufi2002 :

Are you there

JACUSTOMER-v6bwp5d0- :

I think we have come to the end of the road. I am just back where I started, i.e., my iPad cannot connect to My Network or any other network presumably because of the padlock which appears against each item. I suppose I am going to have to take the thing in to an Apple workshop.

JACUSTOMER-v6bwp5d0- :

Thank you for trying.

JACUSTOMER-v6bwp5d0- :

Raymond

JACUSTOMER-v6bwp5d0- :

As we have come to the end of the road, can you please refund my £28. It would be unfair of me to rate your Expert "bad" or "poor". He or she has tried very hard to be helpful, but a solution is obviously unavailable.

I have mentioned before, I cannot connect with you because of a FireFox problem. I wonder if FireFox is the source of all my problems.

Not a problem, have you tried using a different internet browser? Would you be able to re-try so we can get your problem resolved.
