Hi there, I was wondering how I could fix my somewhat "broken"

Resolved Question:

Hi there,

I was wondering how I could fix my somewhat "broken" laptop
screen. It's not the type of broken as in a scratched screen, it's
more inside I think. I will upload a picture as one of the issues is
shown where there are flashing grey/white boxes appearing
on-screen whenever I make an action on-screen.

I believe you are aware that a hardware part identified could be bad and the problem could only be fixed after identifying the bad part and its replaced.

As in a picture, not screenshot?

the screen looks physically damaged or scratched from the top or the display appears bad

Customer:

There are no visible scratches apparently.

Michelle :

so the display is the problem

Michelle :

is it distorted or something

No, it isn't.

Customer:

Just the problem I posted earlier

Although, from time to time, there are a couple of black lines flickering on and off on the top and bottom of the screen.

Michelle :

flickering can have few causes

Michelle :

bad driver software

Michelle :

loose contact on the micro cable connecting the lcd to the motherboard of the computer

Michelle :

when the flickering appears did you try moving the screen a bit up and down and have you noticed if the flickering gets corrected

Customer:

Yes, I believe so.

Customer:

Indeed it does.

if it does that means the problem is not the video driver its the display micro cable which needs to be replaced.

Michelle :

if you can tell me the make and model i can tell you where you can order one or if you are not comfortable in open laptop or have not opened a laptop before then my suggestion to you would be to get it replaced from a laptop repair technician.

I will have to get it replaced then.

Customer:

It is an Alienware M17XR3 from Dell.

Michelle :

absolutely if the screen flickering gets fixed in a particular positing if you move it then its 100% the video cable which is either loose from the connector ends or the cable is cracked.

It has not been under warranty for around a year now, I have had it for at least 2-3 years.

Actually, my mistake.

I have just checked and it apparently still is under warranty.

if you call Dell they will charge $269 just to identify the cause and will charge about $120 for the cable and shipping will be extra, i have worked previously for Dell so i know the inside.
