Can you go to control panel > printers and devices please
Do you see any error on the printer there?
Right click on the printer and click print queue
Let me know if you see anything on the print queue
Print Queue empty
Right click on the printer > choose printer properties
Click on test print
Let me know if the printer prints fine.
Have done test print sent to printer printer queue shows status = error print
ok, can you right click on the printer and remove device
Now right click anywhere on that screen on white space, click add printer
add local printer > add your printer via this wizard
would that be HP Photosmart 310 series or HP Photosmart 310 series with BT310
Have done it said that it has added driver and to print test page but printer is not showing on devices page now so
cannot request print
Do I have to restart PC to pick up new driver

I have done that there is still no printer showing up in devices also message at bottom saying no docs in print queue
Can you try to print something and see if you can see the printer listed in print dialog
I sent a message but cannot see anything referring to it 'print dialogue'! still no reference to 3180 printer so cannot see a printer status

I restarted PC it automatically updated drivers etc I now have on my device screen 2 HP Photosmart 310 series printers and 1 copy HP Photosmart 310 series showing also test prints that I have sent are still showing as print errors as before.
Can you remove the copy 1
Have done It is now showing 1 default printer but still not printing anything (test pages sent) and print status still shows 'connect' as not active
Right click on the printer and click troubleshoot
Done troubleshoot identified that the copy version wasn't the default printer and automatically made it default.
Try printing now please
Done when print prompt screen comes up it shows 2 copies and 1 original. It prints ok against copy1 as default.
you can keep that which is working and remove the others, or can keep all
I will also will keep all e-mails in case I run up against any problem if I restart the PC now and then retry the printer.
