As you suggested, I tried to edit my Apple payment information, but for some reason the default country for my billing address says 'United States'. I don't live in the US, neither is my billing address there.
My billing address doesn't have a Zip code, but I can't complete the billing info unless I enter a US zip code and area code for a phone number. How can I change the country setting on my billing address?
Ok, I changed my country, but there was no overall 'Save changes' button. I tested it to see if the new billing info was saved by signing out of that Apple page and then logging back in. The default country was the US again.
How do I save those changes so they're permanently updated in the Apple system?

Click the arrow by the silhouette and View the account information
Try to buy something from the store.
Just below where you enter your credit card information there should be a blue Save button.

Ok, so I tried to go into the Apple iTunes store to buy something and it's asking me to download iTunes which is strange, because I downloaded iTunes ages ago and already have tons of music on my computer.
But now I've just noticed that the iTunes icon is not automatically sitting on my dock anymore. To find my music, I have to type 'iTunes' into the search bar (at the top right of my iMac desktop).
Also, before I got to that, my default country now says 'UK'. It's not saying US anymore, but I never selected UK. I would select Ireland.
Hello, did you get a reply from me a few days ago, saying that there's a new issue preventing me from getting this process completed? This time it's saying that my valid credit card is not usable in Ireland.
That's because I live in Bahrain so my current bank account and credit card are with a Bahraini bank.
What my previous message to you said was that I've spent nearly a year trying to get Whatsapp (and other easy and free apps), but every single time I try and solve the issue, another problem arises (either to do with my Apple I.D. or what country my computer is in, or now it's because I have a Bahraini credit card, not an Irish one.... All I want to do is get Whatsapp. It's so frustrating!!
Helen. There is no prohibition against having more than one Apple ID. You need only use a unique email address. You can create a new, free email address at outlook.com or gmail.com. You never have to use this address for your personal use. It would only be for Apple's records.You can specify Bahrain as your country. Once your email has been verified you can log in and add your credit card number to your account.-https://appleid.apple.com/account?localang=en_UK-
Apple will send a verification email to your newly created address.
Click the link there and it will take you to the login page.You should then be able to log in to the iTunes store from your phone/computer and make purchases.
Hi, I was just about to try what you suggested and my server stopped responding.
I re-booted the wifi switch and restarted my computer. Then a message popped up on my desktop computer saying: "Another device is using your computer's IP address". It went on to say that if I continued having problems, then I should change my IP address.
Why is all that happening? Is someone hacking my computer?
No one is hacking your computer. That is a message from your router.Are you using a Mac?
Restart all your other devices that connect to the router, including smartphones and tablets.

Ok, will restart the other devices. I've re-booted my machine gazillions of times when the internet stops working, but I've never seen that IP message before. Anyway, thanks for that info - I'll do that and try and find time to set up those other email addresses.
Do you think I'm close to getting sorted so I can get set up with new apps?
