My iomega external hard drive has suddenly stopped being recognised

Resolved Question:

My iomega external hard drive has suddenly stopped being recognised by my laptop. There is power getting to it and i've changed the usb cable. it has all my work on it and I need access to it. any ideas?

Yes. I have just tried another external hard drive in the laptop and that's working so must be the hard drive not a laptop issue.

not really just beacuse another drive works

if you had tried the problem drive in another machine and it worked then you would know its the laptops issue

Then we know its the drive

Well it will be the caddy

They are well known for going bad

You need to remove the caddy and place into a new one

these are very cheap less that £5

The Caddy is the plastic Enclosure that holds the harddrive

Yes You need to Change the caddy

The disk will be ok , If it was disk it wouldent behave as it is
