My laptop runs windows 8.1. I have installed the windows release

Resolved Question:

My laptop runs windows 8.1.
I have installed the windows release upgrade 2.4.2 as recommended.
Since this however I have lost 1 icon on my desktop, which is the WD My passport icon.
This is the one which enable me to retrieve data stored on my external WD Passport drive.
I have the WD Security Icon, but this does not seem to assist me in retrieving data.
Do I have to Uninstall and re-Install to rectify?
Prior to the upgrade it worked very smoothly and was a wonderful asset.
Please help if you can.

in windows 8 and above updates basically changes most of the hardware drivers and functions which you have to remove the existing one and then restart the computer and then reinstall the driver back.

Michelle :

This is not the only case with you external Western Digital hard drive if you have a printer attached to the computer that has to be also reinstalled after removing it from the computer/.

I'll uninstall all the WD external drives and try reinstalling them.

dont forget to reboot the computer before you attemt a reinstall.

Was just about to reinstall following a reboot as you asked when it came up with an error

Customer:

the error stated that an INVALID-ATTACH-ERROR it would collect data and then perform a restart, which it has done.

do I go ahead with the installation of the wd passport external drive or is there anything else that I need to check before this?

you will have to install the WD password ***** now/

and that should take care of the issue
