I have just got an iPad

I have just got an iPad & deleted some emails from my hotmail account. Been on my laptop to discover that I have lost all my emails!! Went to delete where I should be able to find a 'recover deleted messages' sign but there isn't one. Can yo help.?I am gutted and have lost important emails!
