Resolved Question:

Kindle paperwhite, approximately 18 months old, 75 books on it.
Keeps re-booting in middle of reading. Screen very slow to respond to touch, 10-20 seconds to turn a page. Tried re-setting, fully charged battery etc.
Driving me up the wall as I am in the middle of a book

This is usually an issue with the Firmware, so I would first like you to do this please.
Remove the charger from the Kindle and hold the power button to off for 35 seconds.
Release, then connect the charger and turn on the Kindle and tell me if it functions correctly.

I had tried this several times, but perhaps I had not held it in long enough?

This time it reverted to the boot up screen (tree on hillside) and eventually opened up the home screen.

I have returned to the pages I was reading, but it was well short of where I had finished, however the pages do seem to be turning properly now.

Thank you for your help, time will tell if it is cured!

It has to be at least 35 seconds Viv to clear it correctly, likely you did it too short before.
