hold down the power button for 35 to 40 seconds the kindle will reset
wait for another 3 mins before turning it back on as it will shut down as you try the reset step.
try to download ebooks after this.
you must have alerady registered the kindle when you got or are you trying to use it for the first time.
YES IT HAS TURNED ON, FIRST WITH THE AMAZON SYMBOL, AND THEN FIRE CAME UP NOW IT IS TOTALLY BLANK

can you slide your finger from the top to bottom
I've just pressed the on switch againand there is a downwards arrow at the top which if I drag to bottom it brings numbers accross screenand they have now disappeared, but pressed on switch again and back to numbers again with the word PIN next to som chinese symbols

this looks like the kindle is locked is it asking you to enter some kind of password.

no it hasn't asked for a password ***** all and I've searched through the box to see if there was anything inside with this sort of instruction, in fact instructions on use are minimal, and I'm feeling like throwing it out of the window, so frustrated I am with it.!!

you will have to reset the kindle to factory default to make it working i will give you the steps now

i will give you few steps to follow
do you get the number keys appear on the kindle as it asks you to enter password
yes one line at a time
slide the kindle to get into the numberic pad option
enter password ***** hit ok one by one for 5 times
on the 5th attempt you will see a reset option appears on the screen.
hit the reset you will see the kindle will then reset to factory default and once done let it reboot and you will be good to go.

enter number any number and try it for 5 times
after you enter wrong password ***** 5 times you will get an option box which you can push to reset
no option box just the number 17 which looks like a date square then a round picture in a square boc and an envelope shape with all chinese symbols accross side of screen and under boxes

nothing has been in English since I first opened up this device, I find this such a frustrating way of trying to find the answer

all you need to do is enter password ***** times no matter its chinese
then you will get 2 button on chinese after 5 tries

select the second option which is the reset option

yes I've put in the number five times again, and two chinese symbols appear above the block of numbers, and I touched the second symbol and nothing happened the screen has now gone blank I'll have to switch on again.
let it be off
hold down the volume up and down button together dont release them
while holding the volume button push the power button and as you see kindle comes up release all the 3 buttons
I cannot carry on with this I'm going to send back the Kindle to Amazon let them sort it out or gve me mymoney back and I do not think I should pay for this chat session which has been unsatisfactory, thankyou Michelle for trying. I realise it wasn't a ery easy problem to soles
