I use Gmail as a default setting on my laptop.
I mean, do you login to www.gmail.com through your web browser or do you access this on an app like Outlook or Thunderbird?
Though I tried both ways and the same message came up.
Just follow steps
Okay. Please open your web browser, and go to www.gmail.com and login through it. Once logged in, reply back.

scroll down and locate
click on and set it to Turn on
then open Outlook, do a send/receive or hit f9, it will ask for password, retype your password ***** that should fix it
