Troubleshooting steps for sims
1: power down the phone and remove the battery
2: remove the sim card
3: rub a rubber pencil eraser on the gold contacts
4: brush off any debris
5: replace the sim and battery
6: power up the phone
7: if it still is no good power cycle the phone again
8: if it is still bad after the power cycle its time to call the carrier
