Resolved Question:

Interested in Windows 10. Currently on 8.1 running on the required Desktop hardware.
The "reserve Windows 10 " icon was showing in the bottom right hand corner previously for some time, but yesterday (29th) I found it was no longer displayed. I went on to the Q & A and followed the instructions ie. installing KB2976978, but the " Get Windows 10 " App
still not displayed.
Can you advise where I go from here.
Many thanks

Unfortunately you just have to wait:
"With your reservation, you are in the queue for your upgrade. Watch for your notification to arrive in the coming days or weeks. At that point, you can upgrade immediately or pick a time that works for you."
See here:

Not sure I understand. I was unable to reserve 10 because the icon has disappeared so I don't think I am in a queue

Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
OH I thought you meant you already reserved it. Try this: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/Windows-10-faq#ui-id-23
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I already have. See my original question. Still no icon.

You can download an ISO image here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Have already tried that route , but not much success. Will give up and continue on 8.1 for the time being. There are some contacts locally who are usually clued up on this sort of problem.

I managed to download it do you mean you can’t?
Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
You just need your Windows 7 or 8 key to install it.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I thought you had to reserve 10

Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
No you can download the image I did. There are no keys for 10. It's free
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

If you mean you can install windows 10 without having to reserve it, then I will try it and see what happens

Expert:  Mike the Mac Medic replied 1 year ago.
Yes just mount the image and start the setup.
