I ran a program DesignaKnit 8 on Windows 7. When I updated

Resolved Question:

I ran a program DesignaKnit 8 on Windows 7. When I updated to Windows 10 I downloaded the DK8 for Windows 10. The download was 100% and was installed, but I cannot open it I just get the message 'not responding'. I have checked with McAfee remote assistance and the result was that the program was not being blocked.

Instead of double clicking on the icon to run it, right click on it and select properties.
Then click on the compatibility Tab and select windows 7 and at the bottom of the page there select run as administrator.
Click ok and then try to run the program

When you downloaded and applied the update for windows 10.
Did you do it exactly as specified in the instructions making sure if needed it was closed when you did it as indicated here?

I closed DK8, went to softbyte site and clicked download updates for Windows 10

I chose the option 'run' the program installed, I allowed DK8 access, and rebooted when installation was completed

ok, can you go back to the downloaded file please (press the windows key + E and then click on downloads and it is there)
Then right click the file and select Run as administrator and run it this way.
Let it complete and when it has, restart and tell me if it now opens please.

Would not install.

Message: 'following file is in use and cannot be updated C:\Program Files (x86) DesignaKnit\dk8a.dll. Choose cancel to install this file on reboot. Also same with font ROOSMLN1.TTF.

The box at bottom of page said cancel but could not it had frozen

ok, then you will have to do a reinstall.
Can you press the windows key + X and click on Control Panel
Then click on uninstall a program, click on DK8 and unsintall it.
then restart the computer
Reinstall DK8 and then apply the update again using the same procedure we did with the run as administrator.
Once done, tell me if it then runs please.

No, it means there are lot of problems on the hard disk that windows is trying to fix.
It normally takes about 10 minutes but if there are lots of problems it can take even a few hours which is the case for you.

I have received an email from Softbyte advising me to uninstall DK8

and download the complete version of Dk8. Is this the best way to go?

ThanksRestart the computer and on the log in screen do not sign in, hold down the SHIFT button and with it held down, click the power icon and choose restart. Keep SHIFT held until it has restarted into a menu. Choose Troubleshoot, then Reset my PC. This returns the PC to new, so you can set it up again.Then install the programLet me know the results please
