I have two e-mail addresses one operated through my server Virginmedia and the other Google, i.e. gmail. I cannot get in to gmail and I don't think that an e-mail I tried to send via Virginmedia was successful this morning

Yes it was working fine. I was doing well until I tried to order something on Saturday afternoon which was unsuccessful. I changed my password ***** have had trouble ever since. I am rather aged, 79, and jumped from Windows Vista to Windows 10 but consider myself fairly computer literate!!!
