PC goes to Windows, then to my Desktop, then after a few seconds

Customer Question

PC goes to Windows, then to my Desktop, then after a few seconds shuts down. After 5-10 seconds it re-starts (by itself) then shuts down again, and so on.
The only clue I can find is the error message: CPU dll init failed (error 2) which means nothing to me.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

It's a Novatech PC but I don't know the model number (could probably drag the PC out and have a look at the label if essential).

please restart the computer and tap the F8 key...in the advanced menu select the safe mode with networking optionlet me know once on safe mode desktop if it restarts or not

ok now let me know that since when the problem started and before that was any windows update or software installed which might have caused this

I have the problem a month or so back, but it seemed to cure itself. This time it started a day ago and is more "aggressive" - I don't usually get time to log off before it shuts itself down.
There have been windows update within the past week, but I've no control over them and just let them get on with it. I've installed nothing myself.

ok got it...so in safe mode its not restarting itself..is that correct

ok now since this has been an error that has come up previously as well, the exact cause will have to be diagnosedbefore we do that let know do you do regular data backups on this computer

ok now since this problem did not repeat in safe mode there is a clear indication that the problem is windows related.before we try any corrective steps, i would suggest to backup your data on external storage first(all important documents, pictures etc) so that once we start troubleshooting and restart pc, if it doesnt even boot to safe mode like it did this time, your data is safe

you can transfer the data onto external storage like a flash drive or a external hard drive

Displaying my ignorance of things computing here, but I don't know how to tell how much space my data will take up and if a 8GB flash drive and a handful of disks will be sufficient to store it.

you can get started backing up..this is something i have suggested just as a precaution so that in case things dont turn in a good direction we dont have a risk of data loss and can consider a windows reinstall without any problems
