I'm now on windows 10..as from last week. My thunderbird emailing has stopped working. I'm a silver surfer so don't know much...or any technical jargon

What exactly is happening in Thunderbird? How is it not working? And what error do you receive?

I can see you are a first time user to the site. What we do here is either a question and answer type of conversation or remote support where I would actually connect to the computer and have a look and attempt to fix the problem for you.
