Hi,
A message has just appeared on my laptop saying that my windows is not a genuine copy.
The copy of windows has been on my Laptop since I purchased it brand new 4 or 5 years ago I'm not sure.
I have noticed tho that recently I have not been able to open any of my windows maintenance programs. I don't know if this has anything to do with it.
Can you help .

Expert:  Charles A. Roberts replied 11 months ago.

Ok when you can scroll down in that windows and there should be a place where it says activate windows. It should be where it says windows is not activated.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
it says that status is not available and product ID not available
Expert:  Charles A. Roberts replied 11 months ago.

This is starting to sound more like a computer virus causing this problem that or you registery has been damaged. That usually means the machine would need to be backed up and restored to it's original state using your recovery software. Is there anywhere where it says activate windows now?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
No
Expert:  Charles A. Roberts replied 11 months ago.

That's what I was afraid of windows is degrading being caused by a corrupted windows registry. Windows is going to need to be reinstalled you would need to utilize your recovery software or reinstall windows using a windows disk. The recovery software usually comes with your machine.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
okay thanks for trying will I still have to pay for the remote conection
Expert:  Charles A. Roberts replied 11 months ago.

No I already had it cancelled.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I have 2 recovery discs do I use both of them I have never had to do it before
Expert:  Charles A. Roberts replied 11 months ago.

If they are marked disk 1 and disk 2 yes you would need to use them both. Can you tell me there titles.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
operating system recovery DVD and operating system DVD 2
Expert:  Charles A. Roberts replied 11 months ago.

I would start with the first one and if it asks for disk 2 then I would use disk 2. It should auto load once the computer is restarted.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Okay thanks very much
