Hi My wife has developed a strange type of skin condition

Customer Question

Hi My wife has developed a strange type of skin condition on her lower abdomen. she has been to the doctors a few times with it now, who advised it was a fungal infection and prescribed medication. however it never really helped and we are concerned as it may have started on her lower chin. (the original source was on her lower right abdomen near the top of her pant line) .. her mother does have vitaligo, however it looks very different to her condition.

JACUSTOMER-o7rr3f2h- :

Dr. Natasha :

looking

Dr. Natasha :

has she seen a dermatologist?

JACUSTOMER-o7rr3f2h- :

JACUSTOMER-o7rr3f2h- :

no, just a general gp

Dr. Natasha :

well, this could be one of several things- it looks shiny and plaquelike

Dr. Natasha :

so things on the differential would be localised scleroderma (morphea) or psorasis

Dr. Natasha :

if this was fungal, it should be getting better with the fungal medications

Dr. Natasha :

but she needs to see a dermatologist- because the treatment of these two are vastly different

JACUSTOMER-o7rr3f2h- :

it is quite shiney and dry to touch, and as if the skin is thinner in areas that are lighter coloured

Dr. Natasha :

right

Dr. Natasha :

I am thinking this is probably psoriasis, but this could also be localised scleroderma

Dr. Natasha :

she needs to get a referral for a dermatologist because as I mentioned, both of these conditions need to be cared for by a dermatologist

JACUSTOMER-o7rr3f2h- :

she has been given daktacort cream to use

Dr. Natasha :

thats an antifungal.

Dr. Natasha :

it will help neither condition

JACUSTOMER-o7rr3f2h- :

hyrdocortisone cream

Dr. Natasha :

with an antifunga;

Dr. Natasha :

hydrocortisone and miconazole is daktacort

Dr. Natasha :

and it will help neither condition I mentioned above

Dr. Natasha :

which is why she isn't getting better

Dr. Natasha :

Please ask her doctor about localised scleroderma and psoriasis

JACUSTOMER-o7rr3f2h- :

gp did think it could be fungal apparently.. (wife just telling me)

Dr. Natasha :

well, its not getting better, right?

Dr. Natasha :

so she needs to see a specialist and I think that this is psoriasis.

Dr. Natasha :

did I provide you with excellent service?

JACUSTOMER-o7rr3f2h- :

ok thanks... im not happy that the doc has called it right.. so yeah i agree with you..

Dr. Natasha :

great. keep me posted.

Dr. Natasha :

will check in with you in a few weeks

Dr. Natasha :

did I provide you with excellent service?

JACUSTOMER-o7rr3f2h- :

ok.. will see about getting a refferal

JACUSTOMER-o7rr3f2h- :

yes

Dr. Natasha :

cool

hey peter-
how is your wife doing?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Hi.. We have made an appointment with a private surgery to get a 2nd opinion on the condition. The chap is a professor and specialist in dermatology.. So hopefully get to the bottom of the issue.. But the appointment is not for a few weeks
Thanks
