canon MP 540 all in one, displays 'error B200, refer to manual'. Switch off then on has no effect.

Can you start by doing the following and tell me if this resolves it please

Open the cover of the printer.
Remove all ink tanks from the printer.
Lift up the gray locking lever on the side of the ink tank holder.
Gently remove the print head from the carriage unit.
Place the print head back in and lock the lever down.
Place all of the ink tanks back in the printer.
Close the cover and turn the printer off.
Unplug the power from the printer. Leave the power unplugged for about 5-10 minutes.

Turn it on and tell me if it now works correctly

The printer carriage does not move to centre. I had to move it manually to remove cartridges and print head. Also the bar in the screen has moved across to one side and then stopped - stuck?


I switched back on, bar moved back to LH side, but printer carriage stil un-moving, and error message displayed.

Thanks, XXXXX XXXXX confirmed the problem

The B200 error means : "Printhead temperature exceeded".

It means that the printhead ink wells ran out of ink and the printing continued. Printhing without ink in the wells OVERHEATED THE PRINTHEAD NOZZLES and potentially burned them out.

You will get a free printhead replacement or the complete printer will be replaced for free, if the printer is in warranty. Else you will have to get new print heads from this link here.

I do not think it ran out of ink. It is not in warranty, and not worth £67 for new print head. I will buy a new one instead, just a shame that I have a dozen spare ink cartridges. I will rate your answers as OK. Thanks.

Ok, it is the most common cause, else a fault occurred within the print head.
