Hello Joseph! Thank you for your question. I will be assisting you today.

I'm sorry about the issue. This is a very old camera model, nine years old or so. Like many older camera models, this camera model does not support SDHC memory cards; it can only support SD memory cards (with storage capacity of 2GB or less.) The camera was manufactured in the year 2005. The SDHC cards was first manufactured in the year 2006. That's why this camera model is not compatible with SDHC memory cards.

Memory Type:_Secure Digital (SD) Card,
MultiMediaCard (MMC),
16MB SD card supplied

Now, what happens when you use an SD memory card (2GB, 1GB, 512MB, 256MB, 128MB, 64MB, etc.)?

Thank you for your reply. Camera is OK and working correctly when SD cards of 2 GB or less are used. Sorry I have been giving the impression that I am a bit dumb - I probably am.

You're welcome. Like many other camera models, this camera only supports with SD memory cards, so use SD memory cards only. 2GB storage size is pretty big already; you can carry multiple 2GB memory cards as needed and swap memory card if it's full. You can transfer photos from camera/memory card to computer/laptop also.

Also, here is the manual for your camera if you need:
