Hello Problem: unable to download pictures from Canon Ixus

Customer Question

Hello
Problem: unable to download pictures from Canon Ixus 145 (bought recently at Jessop's) on
to computer. No disc or lead supplied with camera package and no instructions for
downloading in handbook so tried using those for previous camera (Ixus 95 IS). That doesn't work. Do I need different software or could it be something else?

Click on start and then on my computer, then disconnect and reconnect the computer while watching that. Does the camera show up there or does anything disappear then reappear?

Have tried that. Camera doesn't show up nor does anything diappear then reappear.

Ok, can you try a different cable for me?
Then click on start right click on computer and click properties.
At the top click on hardware and then click on device manager.
Is there anything with a yellow mark listed there while the camera is connected?

Click on start and then run,type this in

devmgmt.msc

then click on ok the device masnager should open.

OK, got into device manager but see nothing with yellow mark on list

Did you try a different cable? If not so we can rule out the cable can you see if the old camera is detected by the computer?

Sorry, have only got one cable. It's the one from the old camera that I no longer have; no cable supplied with new camera.

If you have any other device using the same type of cable you can test using that, it is possible the cable has gone bad and we need to rule that out.

Have nothing else using same type of cable. It may possibly have gone bad as you say but it always worked perfectly with Ixus 95 IS. Maybe I need to get a new cable and see if that solves the problem?

It is possible that it has gone bad over time they do fail, the only way to test that is with another cable, itis possible that is not the problem though but it needs to be ruled out. Even if you borrow one from a neighbor for example, let me know what happens either way please.
