I tried changing various settings a year ago then just put it in the cupboard.

First, remove the battery and wait 5 minutes.
Then put it back in and tell me if you still have the problem please

Just took a picture of sky which is now grey and sky was white.

I think it is better... but it is just getting dark so hard to judge the sky??

I just took a flash photo of a green sofa and it was bright white.

I tried a picture of the computer sceen ( without flash) and that was OK

ok, the flash is likely to cause this when its indoor and too much light, its over exposure.
If you got a good picture with the computer screen without the flash it should now be ok Christine.
