XP71 USB connection will not allow me to down load to

Resolved Question:

Hi,
XP71 USB connection will not allow me to down load to computer.
Message on camera screen --- USB.
Bought new lead but same instruction.
Advise Please, with thanks.

Connect the camera then click start, computer

In the new window click on computer

when you connect the camera, are you pressing the play button on the camera?

No, not the play button, just the "on" button. Screen on camera shows USB. Shall I try the play button now

Can you take the memory card out of the camera, insert it into the computer and tell me if the computer can read the photos directly from the card please?

Computer does not have card slot but have tried that already with a card reader and no problem seeing photos

ok, remove the card, then on the camera go to the setup menu and perform a reset.

Once done, put the memory card back in the camera and try to connect it to the computer

ok, click start, right click computer and select manage

Then click on device manager

Do you see anything listed with a ! next to it?

ok, right click the computer at the top there and choose Scan for new hardware

you need to right click the computer in device manager, right at the top, then you will see it.

Further down that list is Portable devices, Various cameras appear there with a !

It is the internal usb port that has faulted. Everything else has been ruled out

I am really sorry about this and you are going to have to return the camera to have it replaced. It will be covered by the warranty if this has not expired, and the replacement will be done at no cost to you. If the warranty has expired, I advise to get this unit to connect to your computer to read the memory card

Thank you Richard for all your many attempts to sort the problem.My husband arrived home 10 mins ago and has successfully down loaded on to his computer all photos.
Both camera and lead work---- now I am as puzzled as you must be.Kind regards Carol

on your computer, go back to device manager

Then right click on each device with a ! next to it and select uninstall.

Then restart the computer, connect the camera and see if it now works please
