Aloha! You're speaking to Dr. Michael Salkin
I'm sorry to hear of this with Snowey. I would be reluctant to prescribe Carprodyl-F because the most common adverse effect of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs such as this one is gastrointestinal distress/ulceration. The Carprodyl-F might be well tolerated by Snowey, however. In any event, if you choose to continue its administration, I would initiate an over the counter antacid such as omeprazole (Prilosec) at 20mg daily or famotidine (Pepcid) at 0.2mg/kg twice daily. In fact, I believe an antacid should be administered regularly for such a patient irrespective of what other drugs may be chosen.

Narcotic pain relief should be considered to provide better visceral analgesia. This includes tramadol and buprenorphine - two of the more commonly prescribed opiates for pets. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
