I am sorry to hear about Lady.
My name is Rebecca. I am a veterinarian, and will do my best to help.
It is possible this could be a false pregnancy.
I really don't think so
I believe she is
Why do you think not? A false pregnancy can look very much like the real thing. They swell up, get milk, etc.
I have my suspicions for a few days watching her and her behavier
Dogs with false pregnancies nest, and even try to nurse socks and toys.
But, if you saw her get bred by your other dog, then of course she may really be pregnant.
because we caught our mastiff cross on her just before we realised she came into season
One Xray will tell you if she is pregnant, and how big the puppies are.
You can't stop labor from happening, if she is pregnant. So getting an Xray, and seeing how many and how big the puppies are would give you an idea of what to expect. She may need a C section if they are too big for her.
Usually a dog can only get pregnant in the second week of being in heat, not at the beginning. DId they tie together?
ok..... I will take her to emergency vet tomorrow, I am just worried that her behavier she is showing now that she is going into labour tonight
To get pregnant, a pair of dogs have to "tie" and be stuck together with the penis inside the female for 30 minutes or more.
Then a trip to emergency sounds like a good idea.
You could take her temperature. Normal rectal temperature is 101. A dog going into heat is usually under 100.
I don't know..... they had been left together several times and he was pestering her continusly. that's why we got her a cage in the end.
She is only pregnant if they mated, and tied.
But it certainly is possible.
Again, only an Xray, or an ultrasound, will tell.
ok thankyou.....I will get her to vets tomorrow. thankyou for your help
