Hello,
I am sorry to hear about Bertie. My name is Rebecca. I am a veterinarian, and will do my best to help.

If you look at his gums, are they bright pink in color? That is a good sign if they are.

When he drinks, does he keep the water down?

There are so many reasons that a dog will vomit; literally dozens. I will never forget the Border terrier that ate a pine cone! And she eventually passed it!

Viruses, "dietary indiscretion", parasites, internal diseases ( liver, kidney, pancreas) can all cause vomiting.

The digging in pots is odd, but could just mean that he is not feeling good. He may be trying to dig a hole to lie down in but the only dirt is in pots too small to get into; if he were outside he might dig a hole that is bigger.

If he can hold water down, I would offer only broth or water until he has gone at least 6 to 8 hours without vomiting before offering bland food like chicken and rice.

If his gums look pale, or if he can't hold down water, then he should be checked out by his veterinarian.

Please let me know what else I can answer or help with.
