Hi There, Could the bad air pollution in london be affecting

Customer Question

Hi There,

Could the bad air pollution in london be affecting my dogs breathing? His breathing has been really heavy and a bit laboured tonight, where as its usually very calm and still.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Mark,
I am sorry to hear about Buddy. My name isXXXXX am a veterinarian, and will do my best to help.

Bad air pollution could cause wheezing, coughing, runny eyes, etc. If his breathing is labored, that might be some other problem, or a problem that is complicated by the pollution.

If you look at his gums, they should be bright pink in color. If they look pale at all, he may need medical attention.

Labored breathing can be a sign of a heart problem ( how old is he?), fluid in the lungs, or a respiratory infection.

Can you take his rectal temperature? Normal is between 101 and 102. If his is 104 or more, that could be the reason for his breathing this way.

Please let me know what else I can answer or help with.

Hi There Rebecca,

Thanks for your reply. He's only just over a year old, a beach stray we rescued so don't know his exact age.

His gums were actually a bit pale when i checked them this morning, though his breathing has seemed to returned to normal.

His with his doggy day care people today so they're going to keep an eye on him but i might just take him to the vets anyway.

Thanks for your help

Mark,
I am glad to hear he seems better. If the gums look pale again, I would have him checked out.

Let me know if I can help with or answer anything else.
