Customer Question

My 13 year old Bassett Hound has recently been breathing with difficulty after food. This presents itself through him breathing solely through his nose - deep inhalations - and not through his mouth. I have found, perhaps only by pure luck or coincidence, that pulling his jaws apart seems to resolve the issue.
Can you suggest what the problem might be please?

Aloha! You're speaking to Dr. Michael Salkin
I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. It's a curious history but it sounds like Roley does what I do when I suffer gastroesophageal reflux (GERD/heartburn). I admit that I don't find that pulling my jaws apart helps, however. I would be interested in seeing what an over the counter antacid such as PepcidTwo does for Roley. You can dose it at 0.2mg/kg every 12 hours and see if it makes a difference.
