I am sorry to hear you are worried about Dazium. My name is***** am a veterinarian, and will do my best to help.
What have you tried? I don't want to suggest anything you have already done.
Have you tried melatonin? It is safe, and helps restore sleep cycles, and has calming effects. Start at 6 mg at bedtime.
I have tried a similar thing called pet calm .its organic ,and contains Valarian
That is not melatonin.
Melatonin is a hormone, available over the counter.
What is Melatonin
It is a hormone. The things in Pet Calm are herbs.
What does it do ,and why would I use hormone,
it would work in a different way from the calming enzymes you tried.
And it is safe.
It is usually the first thing I recommend for dogs that do not sleep at night.
It puts the brain on a cycle of sleeping at night.
How would it work ,my girl was speyed some years ago due to hormonal problems
Here is an article about it: http://canigivemydog.com/melatonin
It recommends a lower dose than the one I gave you. I would start at 3 mg, and try 6 mg if that does not help.
So ,it's a kind of sleeping drug ,
Another important thing is to not get up when she does. I know it is very hard to ignore her, but if she sees you get up, or even if you talk to her, she is getting positive reinforcement from you for waking her.
Melatonin is not a drug.
It is a natural hormone.
The getting up to her ,is rewarding bad behaviour,I understand this ,but getting that through to my husband is almost impossible ,so basically I nEed to break the habit ,I understand that too ,so you think the hormone drops are the way to do this ?
There is no guarantee, but if you have not tried melatonin, I would try it. It is not a sedative. It is not drops, it usually comes as a pill or a capsule.
That is usually the first thing I try.
There is a new natural calming product I have heard about that sounds very promising, but I have not used it yet, called Zylkene.
And how long would I administer this for ,
If it helps, I would give it every night, until her habits have changed. It is always reported as being very safe.
If that does not work, I would try the Zylkene: http://www.zylkenepet.co.uk
And if she doesn't respond ?
I would try the Zylkene next.
But modifying her behavior is an important part of changing her, and that means ignoring her at night when she does this. That is the hardest part. But the melatonin or Zylkene may help keep her sleeping.
But how long till she changes her habits should I wait ?
If the melatonin is going to help, you should see something the first night. If 3 mg is not enough, try 6 mg the next night. After a few nights, if it does not help, try the Zylkene.
And be sure to involve your husband in the ignoring part; this is probably more important than any supplement, herb, hormone, or medication.
Where would I get the Melatonin ?
It should be in any store that sells supplements or over the counter medications, or online.
Ok many thanks .
You are welcome1
