Customer Question

My elderly Border Terrier has had a number of funny turns(?) Its as if he has something stuff in his throat or wind pipe and he coughs but can't seem to get his breath and often just falls over - he does not actually pass out nor is he fitting - i try and catch him and pat him gently holding him upright and he seems to recover very quickly. There seems to be no lasting impact of this.
I have had him tested and his heart, liver and kidneys all seem fine. He is 14 years old. My vet has said that it could be neurological but I am very reluctant to have any sort of invasive tests on him.
Is there anything else I could have missed?

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. You've described syncopal episodes. I would be most concerned about arrhythmia (irregular heart rate) in an elderly Billy resulting in syncopy. Make sure than an EKG has been performed and some dogs will require a halter monitoring of 24 hours in order to detect such an arrhythmia. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
