Gillian, it appears that he's having both a local (pain at the injection site) and systemic delayed hypersensitivity reaction (somnolence/sleepiness) to his vaccine(s). These reactions usually abate within 36 hours from the injection unaided but you can dose him with a small dose of the antihistamine chlorphenamine (Piriton) - just 1 mg - at 12 hour intervals which should be helpful. If not, his vet can inject him with a fast-acting glucocorticoid (steroid) such as prednisolone which will be more effective than the antihistamine. He isn't experiencing the dangerous anaphylactic allergic reaction and so he should remain safe albeit uncomfortable. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

Should i leave him quietly over night and see how he is tomorrow then before taking him back

Yes, that would be prudent. It's likely he'll wake up well. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
