Hi Mike, my name is James.Looking at what you get with your camcorder, it appears you only need the USB cable that is contained in the box. If you plug one end into your camera and the other into the computer, hopefully the computer should detect it without any software required. It may take a minute or 2 for the computer to install it, but this procedure should happen automatically. You should be able to find your device in My Computer, and your camera's SD card should be a device listed. If you are unfamiliar with your My Computer screen, the best thing to do is to unplug the camera, and wait a few seconds to see if a connected device disappears from the window, and then plug the camera back in and see if the device appears again. If you double click on the device that is now obviously your camera, you should be presented with folders and in them should be your video files. You can certainly drag these files to your computer so that they are stored there, but they are specfic file types for Panasonic, called AVCHD.Now to play these files on your computer you need the right software and you need to have the correct codecs installed on your computer. Next we are going to download 3 codec packs.Download and install the following Codecs (these will enable loads of different file types to become playable on your computer)1.http://cccp-project.net/ - click the yellow button and install the .exe2.Depending on what version of windows you have here is the next set of codecs:Vista/XPhttp://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/vista_codec_package.htmlWindows 7/8 32bithttp://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/windows_8_codecs.htmlWindow 7/8 64bithttp://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/windows_8_codecs_64_bit.html3.Okay and finally download choosing 32 bit or 64 bit based on your windows.http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/download.phpAlso download and install the latest Directx from Microsofthttp://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35After you have all of the above codecs and have the latest Directx, you now need a suitable player for your video files. The easiest to run and use is Media Player classic which you can download from:http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/Now you are ready to play your video files. Double click a file and if you are asked what program you wish to open this file with, select Media Player Classic as the option.Let me know if you are having trouble with any part of my help, and I would be happy to give further assistance. All the best,James.
