my Samsung clx-3175fn printer is not printing correctly, when it prints something the color seems to come right down the page

Hi, thank you for contacting JustAnswer.com. My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.


I suspect that, whatever color is smearing down the page, it probably results from a leakage condition in the corresponding toner cartridge. The first thing to try (if I have interpreted what you have said correctly) is to replace that toner cartridge.

If several colors are smearing, or all of them, the next question is: can you rub the toner around, on the printed pages after they come out of the printer, with a dry fingertip or thumb? if so - and if toner sticks to your finger or thumb when you do that - then you have a 'cold fuser' condition, and your printer will need either the fuser replaced, or to be serviced by a good laser printer professional company.

Hi, Thanks for your answer.


No the colour doesn't come off on your fingers and the paper is quite warm to the touch so I don't think it is that, the problem started a few weeks ago and has got steadily worst I did approx.. 30 pages of printing yesterday and by the end the whole page was discoloured but also with streaks going all down the page. I turned the printer off over night and it seems better today but still doing it a little. What does the imaging unit do? and how often does it need replacing? Thanks.

If the printer has not yet signaled that the imaging unit needs replacing, then it may not need replacing. Or, not for any "routine maintenance" sort of need, as opposed to some extraordinary failure.

The imaging unit is involved in the developing of the image that gets transfered onto the paper.

If the printer performs better when cooled down, check whether any vents or grilles on it are blocked, and whether fans behind those vents or grilles are working properly and without dust obstruction.

Do all colors streak down the pages? or just one color?

What has recently been replaced in your Samsung printer? what maintenance (if any) has been done on it, recently?
