I have a Samsung LE40A557P27xx. When viewing, the volume decreased

Customer Question

I have a Samsung LE40A557P27xx. When viewing, the volume decreased to zero of its own accord and the remote control function buttons no longer respond. Sometimes, the vol can be adjusted by the switch integral on the tv but automatically reduces to zero after a very short time. As the tv does not respond to the remote, I cannot access the set-up - or any other - menu and the tv has not performed a master reset even after being powered off overnight.

Richard Hill :

Hi

Richard Hill :

Is one of the remote control's buttons stuck down?

Richard Hill :

In any event try removing the batteries from the remote and see if the TV can then be controlled with the TV buttons

JACUSTOMER-ihaikaq9- :

'fraid not

JACUSTOMER-ihaikaq9- :

tv CAN be controlled with buttons on set - but vol still decreases to zero automatically

Richard Hill :

Sorry, yes meant volume buttons rather than general control

Richard Hill :

In other words you're turning it up and the remote is turning it down

JACUSTOMER-ihaikaq9- :

can raise vol via button on set when first switched on, then ............. as described

JACUSTOMER-ihaikaq9- :

NO, the set itself reduces sound to nil whether vol initially turned up or not. Cannot increase vol or change channels or do anything at all with remote ; can only lift vol on tv button

Richard Hill :

You can reset to factory defaults (will need to re-tune) by holding down the EXT button, but not sure if that is going to work if remote is not operating

JACUSTOMER-ihaikaq9- :

"obviously" switched to 2 new batteries from unopened pack yesterday.

JACUSTOMER-ihaikaq9- :

Cannot hold down exit button!

JACUSTOMER-ihaikaq9- :

well. I can but nothing happens!

Richard Hill :

I've not come across this specific issue, but these sets do suffer with faulty capacitors

Richard Hill :

I think you'll need a technician to take a look at it.

JACUSTOMER-ihaikaq9- :

I wouldn't even think about trying to establish that myself and, as it's wall-mounted, the back will not be easy to remove. Round here companies want £100 just to send 'someone'. No guarantees, no refunds! What do you suggest as next step?

Richard Hill :

You could contact Samsung UK and see if they can recommend someone

JACUSTOMER-ihaikaq9- :

OK. Thanks anyway. Sorry to say: don't think that's £22 well spent :(

Richard Hill :

Is it still covered under warranty or insurance?

JACUSTOMER-ihaikaq9- :

Unfortunately not. Mfrs warranty just 1 yr; bought from Comet 12/1/09.

Richard Hill :

Pity, sorry can't be of more help on this occasion.

Richard Hill :

All the best, Richard
