I have a Samsung LE40A557P27xx. When viewing, the volume decreased

I have a Samsung LE40A557P27xx. When viewing, the volume decreased to zero of its own accord and the remote control function buttons no longer respond. Sometimes, the vol can be adjusted by the switch integral on the tv but automatically reduces to zero after a very short time. As the tv does not respond to the remote, I cannot access the set-up - or any other - menu and the tv has not performed a master reset even after being powered off overnight.

In any event try removing the batteries from the remote and see if the TV can then be controlled with the TV buttons

Sorry, yes meant volume buttons rather than general control

In other words you're turning it up and the remote is turning it down

NO, the set itself reduces sound to nil whether vol initially turned up or not. Cannot increase vol or change channels or do anything at all with remote ; can only lift vol on tv button

Richard Hill :

You can reset to factory defaults (will need to re-tune) by holding down the EXT button, but not sure if that is going to work if remote is not operating

"obviously" switched to 2 new batteries from unopened pack yesterday.

well. I can but nothing happens!

I've not come across this specific issue, but these sets do suffer with faulty capacitors

I think you'll need a technician to take a look at it.

I wouldn't even think about trying to establish that myself and, as it's wall-mounted, the back will not be easy to remove. Round here companies want £100 just to send 'someone'. No guarantees, no refunds! What do you suggest as next step?

You could contact Samsung UK and see if they can recommend someone

Is it still covered under warranty or insurance?

Unfortunately not. Mfrs warranty just 1 yr; bought from Comet 12/1/09.
