We have caller display on our Siemens Gigaset A160, which has stopped working, also the 'new message' function does not appear. I have spoken to BT, who advised me to remove the back from the base station to locate a 'hidden socket', and try plugging the handset into this. However, I cannot remove the back from the base station (after removing the 2 screws at the base) and don't want to risk breaking it by forcing it. Caller display was working until last weekend. Could it have been affected by a thunderstorm on Saturday? Please advise. Joan Gethin (01970 828819)
That seems like a strange solution that BT have recommended? Did they intend you to continue using it like this?
Have you tried resetting the base station, by unplugging it from the mains and telephone line for a few minutes and then plugging it back in?
Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately this did not work. Do you have any further tips I could try?
Tried resetting the base station but no effect. Not sure if it reset properly, as my stored numbers were still in place. May try again.
I have tried resetting the base unit as per instructions, and the handsets re-registered, but still no caller display. According to the instruction manual, only the date and time should be retained after resetting the base unit, but I still have my stored directory entries. I will try to phone Siemens direct, if I can find a number (the one in the manual is not recognised!). Thanks for your efforts.
Yes, I am paying BT for the caller display. I have spoken to them and tried the code they gave me (*#234#) which says "caller's identities will be displayed", so I think it's a fault in the set itself rather than the line. I have now had a number from Siemens, so I will try that.
Thanks for your attempts to help.
After speaking to LiGo (Siemens) and trying a 'hard reset', (which worked on one handset but not the other, incidentally), caller display is still not working, so I think it is a fault on the Gigaset unit. I will either have to put up with not knowing who is calling, or buy a new phone!
Don't think there is any more to be done.
Thanks for your attention.
