What is the make and model number of your scanner?

Is it connected to a computer?

Pete :

If so, what scanning software are you using?

I am sorry I am an elderly lady so you will have to be patient with me. When you ask about software I am not sure what you mean.

Pete :

That's ok, just take your time.

Pete :

Can you tell me more about the scanner first - what type is it?

Customer:

My computer is a Packard Bell and I am on Windows 7

Pete :

Ok, and the scanner...?

Customer:

I do not know

Pete :

Are there any markings on it, perhaps underneath or on the rear?

Pete :

Or can you describe it? Is it a flatbed scanner, or part of a multifunction printer, or a handheld scanner?

Customer:

It is part of a multifunction printer. The printer is a Kodak ESP3250.

Pete :

Ok, great that helps!

And could you also let me know the exact error message you see when you try to scan?

Customer:

Without doing it I cannot remember.

I can now tell you exactly what it said. Operation could not be completed(error 0x00000015) The device is not ready.

For example, does it say OK?

No.

Ok, and if you click OK, does it let you continue to use the scanner?

Pete :

Usually when this error message occurs, it is letting you know that one of the many services running in the background on the computer has not started and is not ready, however if you click on OK you should still be able to scan.

Pete :

To make the error message go away permanently, try the following:

Customer:

The trouble is that I cannot actually click on OK as the cursor goes off.

Pete :

1. Click on the Windows Start icon.
2. Type services.msc in the search part.
3. Scroll to the following services and enable them by right clicking on them, click properties and make it automatic startup:
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
DCOM Server Process Launcher
RPC Endpoint Mapper
Shell Hardware Detection
4. Once these services have been enabled, reboot your PC and you should no longer see the error message appear again.
